HELP YOUR KIDS BEAT THE HEAT

Heat-Advisory

The heat index tomorrow(7/2/14) will be 100-105 in the Philadelphia and Delco regions according to 6 ABC. There is a heat advisory from noon til 8 pm. It will obviously be too hot to take your kids outside to play. Even if you are lucky enough to have a pool the heat will just be too stifling. So how do we beat the heat and keep our little ones happy? I have five tips for all you parents and caregiver out there to do just that. They are simple and inexpensive.

THE INDOOR PICNIC

You have to eat anyway right so have some fun with it.Set up your blanket and pack a basket make their favorite cold sandwiches. My kids like ham and cheese but pick your own favorites. Get out you cookie cutters and cut your sandwiches into fun shapes. Serve with a special easy watermelon smoothie. Sit on the floor and enjoy your kids!

For the smoothie: blend 1 part water and 2-3 parts fresh water melon

BATH TUB SWIMMING

It sounds silly but smaller kids really love this. Fill the tub with cool water but  not too cold. Put them in their bathing suit’s and let them splash. My two youngest think this is a blast. Hey if your tub is big enough hop in with them. If it’s late give them the soap and kill two birds with one stone.

BALLOON IN THE AIR

My husband came up with this for our kids and the teenager even got in on it. All you need is a tall fan or small oscillating fan and a balloon. Put the fan on high and put the balloon in front of the air stream. The object is to not let the balloon touch the floor. So simple and yet the kids will play for hours and the fan will keep you cool!

MAKE NICKELODEON GREEN SLIM

What kid doesn’t love green slime. OK ya it’s messy but your kids will love it. You will be known as the cool mom. all you need is green dish soap and Baking soda. Here is the YouTube video to show you how. Be messy and have fun.

MAKE A FAMILY COLLAGE

kids always love to look at old pictures of themselves and you. Go through some of the pictures together. Pick  about 5 per person. You can put them on poster board or cardboard whatever you have in the house. let them decorate it however they want to. Make it colorful and fun. When it done you will have a cool piece of family art work. Later you can even buy a frame and hang it up. They will love seeing the art work on display in the house.

The goal is to just have fun and stay cool.. Always be safe during a heat advisory. Limit physical activity and drink plenty of water for more safety tips please visit

Stay safe and cool!
